FAQ

Questions people ask

Do I have to use the key?

No. The plates page lists every game in this edition, and the key is also printed out in full on the front page for anyone who prefers to read it.

The key only gave me one game. Is that it?

That is the point of a key: one answer per path. Each plate names the game it is most often confused with, which is usually the second thing to try.

Are these games free?

Every game here can be started and played without paying. All sell something; the "diet" line on each plate says what, and the fairness score says whether you will feel its absence.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Each runs in an ordinary web browser. Where a phone app shares the same account, the plate says so under "habitat".

Why only six?

Because each plate is three weeks of two people's time. An edition with six plates we can stand behind is more use than thirty we cannot.

Do publishers pay for plates?

No. "Open the game" links are affiliate links and may earn us a commission if you sign up, but plates are locked before a link is added.

Do you cover gambling or casino games?

No, and we will not. Pewter Fern describes games played for their own sake.

Can I suggest a game?

Yes, on the contact page. Tell us how long you have played it and where in the key you think it belongs.

Is the site for children?

It is written for adults. The games described carry their own age ratings; check the publisher's page before signing up a younger player.
